Average Adult Fish Size:  1.5 inches  /  3.8 cm

Place of Origin: Amazon Basin, South America.

Typical Tank setup: Well planted at the sides and back whilst leaving open swimming space, also add with rocks and driftwood/bogwood.

Recommended Minimum Aquarium Capacity: 15 gallon / 60 litre

Compatibility: It is very common to find tetras with Corydoras as companions, as they are both quite peaceful and other tank mates like Guppies, other Tetras, Rasboras, Mollies & Platies

Temperature: 73 – 81 Deg F / 23 – 27 Deg C

Water chemistry: pH 5.0 – 7.8

Feeding: They accept normal tropical flake food and as an occasional treat, live foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp.

Sexing: Adult females are more rounded in the belly and a little less intensely coloured than males.

Breeding: Eggs will be scattered provided conditions are correct (a dim lit aquarium fine leaved plants on the base for the eggs to be deposited on) and parents should be removed after this has happened to ensure the eggs are not eaten.

Additional Information: Being primarily a schooling species, the Penguin Tetra should always be kept in groups of 6 or more to ensure it exhibits its most natural behaviour and doesn’t get stressed.
