Scientific name: Barbus Semifasciolatus
Average Adult Fish Size: They will grow to 4 inches (10 cm) but not all reach this size and usually stay around the 3 inch mark.
Place of Origin: Southeast China
Typical Tank Setup: They prefer planted areas and open areas in the aquarium and like to stick in a shoal of 6-8 or more.
Recommended Tank Size: 10-20 gallons (45-90 Liters)
Compatibility: They are good in community tanks and usually peaceful.
Temperature: They like to be at a temperature of 18-24 degrees Celsius.
Water Chemistry: pH of 6.0 – 8.0
Feeding: will eat most flake food but will also eat live foods such as bloodworm and daphnia.
Sexing: the females tend to have rounder bellies than the males and grow slightly larger.
Breeding: During breeding the males will fight for the females and show bright colors. . This species are egg-scatterers and will eat their own eggs. Once eggs have been laid, hatching takes around 1 and a half days.
Additional Information: The Barbus semifasciolatus is commonly found in the fish hobby in the color of gold. They are small shoaling fish that enjoy a well planted aquarium as well as some open spaces.
